Celebrate Golden Arts Council 40 Years

The Golden District Arts Council and Kicking Horse Culture are planning a celebration all season long with a great line-up of music, film, theatre and dance!

Another piece of big news is that they’ve succeeded in their efforts to re-birth the Civic Centre… it will be closed for renovations this year. So, they’ll be setting up home this season in the Sacred Heart Church Hall. They’ll be setting up a stage and lights, Mike Pecora will be on sound as usual and all the hospitality and concession folks will be there too.

Come and celebrate with they all year long … 650 members can’t be wrong!

Here’s a sneak peak at the line-up so far…

September 16

Suzie Vinnick

A native living in , Suzie Vinnick is the owner of a gorgeous, powerful voice and performs with a sweet mixture of engaging candidness and unparalleled musicianship. Suzie was nominated for a 2009 JUNO for her 3rd album, Happy Here, produced by Juno-Award winning singer/songwriter Stephen Fearing. You’ve also heard Suzie on Stuart McLean’s Vinyl CafĂ© and on every Tim Horton’s commercial! She’ll be accompanied tonight by percussionist Bill Usher.

October 1

Fish & Bird

The music of Fish & Bird is rooted in an authentic love for folk music, but it’s a tough love that doesn’t stop them from showing the genre a little abuse. They have been compared to an ‘old timey Radiohead’ – the kind of thing that might have resulted if a lost tribe of art-school rockers discovered a crate full of banjos, fiddles and old records washed up on the shore.

October 15 & 16

A Community Concert to Celebrate and Support the Arts in Golden

This one you can’t miss… they’re looking back to October 15, 1970 when the Golden District Arts Council was formed and they’re going to party-it-up big! With the help of dozens of locals, it’s going to be one joyous variety show of music, dance, skits and whatever else we can come up with to have fun and entertain you.
